The cliffnote version:
Saute whatever veggies you have on hand. Turnips add a robust flavor for example. Add a bit of tomato puree. Get some confidence in the pan. Add butterbeans. Mix in with the flavors. Add the stock. Bring to a boil then turn it down and let it simmer. Add some seasonings such as Italian herbs or fresh parsley. That's it. Sauté veggies, add some beans and broth and have yourself a great soup.
