Move over queso sauce, there is a new sauce in town! This amazing sweet & smokey BBQ sauce is made with ingredients you probably already have at home. The best part? It is quick to make, refined sugar free, vegan, and UNREAL!

Here’s the recipe:

SWEET & SMOKEY VEGAN BBQ SAUCE RECIPE

6 tbsp tomato paste
1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
4 pitted medjool dates (soaked)
1 tbsp mustard
2 tsp garlic powder
1.5 tsp onion powder
12 drops of smoke
1 tsp smoked paprika
1 tsp pepper
1 tsp of blackstrap molasses
1/2 tsp cumin
1/2 teaspoon of salt
1/3 cup of water

Blend sauce in blender and enjoy OR simmer on low heat for 15 minutes. If you choose to do this, add another 1/4 cup of water for cooking. Stir frequently so it doesn’t burn!

You want to refrigerate after it cools off. It is best the next day and should keep at least a week in the fridge since mustard, vinegar, salt are all natural preservatives.

Christine Peters says:

Hi Derik could I use coconut aminos instead of liquid smoke?

James King says:

Made this for the first time today. Modified it a bit. I didn't have molasses, so I used sorghum. I added more water as we like our sauce a little more runny. Turned out AMAZING!

Going to make bbq lentils to go over brown rice. I'll probably serve with a big salad.

Thanks for all you do!

Debbie Loewen says:

Isn't molasses considered refined sugar?

timbo0994 says:

Has anyone tried adding more water to thin it down and using it like a dressing sauce of such idk Derek I love u x

James King says:

Can I use Sorghum in place of Molasses?

The sponsored ad in the middle of this video was for a nacho party pack from Taco Bell. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

Scott Morgan says:

I love your videos, you have helped me so much. I just wanted to add one quick thing not trying to be a know-it-all or anything, if you add Worcestershire sauce it may no longer be vegan. Most Worcestershire sauce have anchovies in them.

Lisa DeBerger Wheeler says:

I can't wait to try this recipe. I was thinking, why couldn't you use the water used to soak the dates? Someone else made a great comment. Put the water into the blender after you've spooned it out? Put the blender on mix and you will get every drop out. That's actually how I clean my blender. Fill it with hot water a tiny drop of soap. Put it on mix, a quick rinse and it's clean! Another tip, when reducing the sauce use a double boiler. It's the bomb to keep things hot without worrying about your product from burning.

Kayena says:

Ow man, don't put the spoon you just put in your mouth back in the sauce…

David Rodriguez says:

I saw a video that you posted a year ago about what do vegans eat find out in my kitchen. I decided that starting tomorrow Tuesday after Labor Day that Iโ€™m going to make a switch for two weeks to see if I can handle going vegan. My concern is going to be more protein and also transitioning off beef chicken and pork. Iโ€™m very excited because at 47 years old I know that I want to clean out my system and at the same time have better skin stronger bones and most importantly, loose weight!! I am nervous and yet excited for the journey thatโ€™s ahead of me. I did subscribe and I also hit the bell so that way I can be on top and not fall back. One of my weakest problems is processed foods especially like pizza so Iโ€™m hoping that I would be able to find tricks to help fight the urge .

Kayleigh the Vegan Dog walker says:

YESSSSSS thankyou Derek.. 1. For always being my healthy vegan eating inspiration .. but also 2. For making my FAVOURITE sauce ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜‹๐Ÿ˜‹

Charlie Orchid says:

Lost in the sauce. Gotta get seasonin first.

Miss Mo's Vegan Kitchen says:

Richa, the founder of Good Food for Good, is such a sweetheart and an amazing foodpreneur. For every bottle of her product bought, they donate a meal! I love that. Such a great incentive. I make my own bbq sauce as well but just wanted to say that about GFFG.

John Warner says:

So many Derek moments in one video
I thought I was watching a parody channel LOL

I have never had BBQ sauce
I suspect it is very North American
So I probably won't be making this
But it is good to see you making a wholesome version

BTW Worcestershire should be pronounced as
WUUS ter sher
Ignore the "-rce-" in the middle.
