Stars Trevor Howard and Jean Simmons. Clearly influenced by early Hitchcock (YOUNG & INNOCENT and 39 STEPS … though no one ever approaches Hitch’s genius, of course). THIS VIDEO IS NOT BEING MONETIZED IN ANY WAY.

I have just watched this wonderful film, again, some 5 months later.
Mainly to see Jean Simmons and those wonderful eyes. I have never seen Trevor Howard play a bad character role; nor play any role , badly.

Keith Caffray says:

Lovely to see Kenneth More in a less than sympathetic role for once. A great film, with a good script, great actors and great direction.

Thank you so much for uploading and sharing this legendary film, It's one of my favorites ! It has everything "makes you laugh, cry" feel a justifiable anger; there's mystery, it's a psychodrama, there's human sympathy & understanding, some romance , "deep state" element , some superb cinematography in the middle and near the end, and quite a thriller and the young Jean Simmons is so pretty . I've watched it several times and never watched the end . I will eventually, but i love watching it over again . knowing the ending might spoil watching again, but perhaps not, we'll see …

Mil gracias from Madrid!!!

Silence DoGood says:

Nothing like a good old British crime drama or mystery can’t believe this one escaped me all these years.

Jamie Brank says:

Jean Simmons had just as much beauty and talent as Elizabeth Taylor, even more, in my opinion. I love Mz Taylor, every thing she was in.. Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, as good as she was, I believe did something to her. Kind of ruined her personality for for about 20 yrs. Any way for me Jean was always brilliant.

Stephen Vincent says:

Two truly great British stars who went on to have illustrious careers. The charm of Trevor Howard and the beauty of Jean Simmons. Two very talented actors made this thriller more than watchable.
Great to see Kenneth More again reminded me of breakfast at the Queens Hotel Leeds when our paths crossed back in the late 60’s.

Neil Byrne says:

Classic very Hitchcock if his name was attached 100 million would have seen this film. I never heard of it and thank you for putting it up. Once the chase was on this film rocked!!!

John Bramley says:

My grandmother's brother had a bit part in this film, great to be able to watch and see him.

Brian Haskard says:

Good film though the way they kept being found wasn't believable.

Really fine writing. I love a straightforward narrative with telling dialogue, a slow build, strong character and understated visuals. The tight two shots work beautifully showing intimated relationships and how we affect one another. The solution to the mystery was fairly obvious, the point being motive and opportunity. Really the lengths to which people will go to deceive and indict innocent people! That girl no doubt had inherited the estate of both her doomed parents… I find always with people when things go wrong, when there is dysfunction of any kind, look for the human hand not the hand of fate or the cruel omniscience of God – standing in high as ever a handy GOAT excuse for human failure. Instead, Look for cui Bono⁉️

M RG says:

Actually this was hillarious

john bunyan says:

Wow ! A really exciting British thriller – especially for 1950.
Jean Simmonds was always one of my top beautiful actresses.
Trevor Howard played so many mature parts.
Thanks for posting this film

Skylar Jones says:

I love all the music in this film.

Trevor Bailey says:

Thank you for posting this first-rate film. Fans of Robert Krasker's cinematography in The Third Man will smile & nod when they see a certain pursuit here. (A different cameraman this time, but note: this film was released just one year after Trevor Howard's splendid Major Calloway in Carol Reed's masterpiece!)
